The ‘European Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability' conference, to be held in Valencia on 13/14 April 2010, forms the heart of a series of new PPP events aiming to add impetus to European economic recovery by unlocking the potential of these innovative ventures.
The conference is the first of its kind and aims to bring together a number of PPPs which are all part of the EU's strategy to revitalise key sectors of the economy:

    • "Factories of the Future"
    • "Energy-Efficient Buildings"
    • "Green Cars"
    • "Future Internet"

A number of prominent politicians such as EU Commissioners Máire Geoghegan-Quinn (Research and Innovation) and Neelie Kroes (Digital Agenda) will be present to give key-note speeches.
The event will be organised by the Spanish Presidency of the EU and high-level figures from Spanish government will take part, such as Spanish Minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, President of the Valencia Region, Rita Barberá Nolla, and Spanish Minister for the Information Society, Francisco Ros.
At a session dedicated to "Factories of the Future", various Board Members of EFFRA will consider, among other things, the current technological challenges of research in production. EFFRA Chairman Massimo Mattucci (COMAU) will give an overall presentation of the association and its activities, followed by Professor Heinrich Flegel (Daimler), who will discuss MANUFUTURE's latest achievements and the needs of production technology users from a European producer perspective, and finally Iñaki Larrañaga (Mondragon), who will discuss the needs of industry at national, regional and international levels.
The conference will provide an open forum for discussion with key players from industry, the research community and high-level representatives from the European Union. The aim is to lay the ground for future RTD and innovation programmes, which will generate added value for the principal industrial sectors of the European economy, as well as to provide vital input to the Competitiveness Council meeting on 25/25 May 2010.
The four PPPs will gather over a period of two days to discuss means of implementing the various PPPs; the role of research and innovation in responding to the changing needs of industry; the definition of the PPP roadmaps for each initiative; challenges posed for research within the PPPs' key thematic areas; the role of industry and research organisations and the challenges posed by technological innovation.
The conference will be hosted at the Valencia Conference Centre, near to Manises international airport, and forms part of the ‘European Innovation and RTD Week'.
