With U.S. visa demand in Brazil growing at a rapid pace, the U.S. Department of State needs American citizens, with proficiency in Portuguese, to work as Consular Adjudicators in U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad.
As a Consular Adjudicator, you will use your exceptional customer-service, interpersonal and communication skills to make sound judgments about foreign nationals who want to travel to the United States.
Through conducting one-on-one interviews and reviewing supporting documentation, you will determine who meets the requirements for entry into the United States. In this critical border security function, you are on the front lines of preventing fraud, combating trafficking in persons and protecting U.S. borders. You may have additional duties including service to American citizens abroad and general assistance to U.S. Embassy and Consulate activities.
We are looking for motivated, culturally aware, adaptable, strategic-thinking problem-solvers, with a commitment to public service, who have sound judgment and can retain their composure during stressful circumstances. Your language skills are critical in the ability to effectively represent America to the world.
Initially, these appointments are for a period of 18 months, and then renewable for up to five years, based on satisfactory performance and the needs of the Foreign Service. This limited non-career appointment will not lead to further employment with the U.S. Department of State or conversion to another form of employment. You may apply to other U.S. Department of State career opportunities through the standard application processes.
