In recent decades, both Portugal and California have shared the tragedy of cyclical devastating forest wildfires. This event brings together two experts in the field of Forest Management as well as a representative from a citizens’ grassroots organization who will discuss strategies and policies for the prevention and control of forest fires. The discussion will particularly focus on methods of re-organization that aim of increasing the economic value and profitability of the forest while decreasing the risks of uncontrollable fires. In parallel, the event will juxtapose research being conducted at the University of Lisbon and at the University of California, Berkeley, with the actions of citizen groups in the critical area of Forest Management and Preservation.
